About us
Carr-Gomm is a national charity providing high quality support and housing services that place individuals at the centre of planning and decision making, enabling them to have control over their lives. We work with people with a variety of needs who need support because of illness or disability or because they are experiencing a crisis in their lives.
Every year we support over 4,000 people across England. Many of the people who use Carr-Gomm services have mental ill-health, a learning disability or other disability. Some have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse or face losing their home due to personal crises.
Carr-Gomm offers the support that people need to be able to live independently and achieve their personal goals – whether that is to get a job, have their own flat or make new friends.
“Our vision is of a world where vulnerable people have the same choices and chances as everyone else, and are valued for their contribution. Carr-Gomm is committed to helping people to achieve this”
Each of our projects is set up in the community to meet local needs. We work closely with local authorities and other agencies to design and deliver a range of specialist services, such as move-on options for homeless people, day services, housing for people with learning disabilities, self-contained flats and floating support services for women escaping domestic violence. For more information on the clients we serve and the types of services we can offer, go to Our services section.
Please go to Locations section to see where we offer services.
We help people to identify their goals by developing individual support plans with them when they first join Carr-Gomm. We are introducing Person Centred Planning in Carr-Gomm as a way of helping all our clients plan what they want for their lives and what support they need to achieve their goals. For more information on PCP, go to Person Centred Planning.
Our clients are at the centre of Carr-Gomm services and we value their contribution (we call our service users, “clients” after they chose this title). Carr-Gomm has a strong track record in user involvement services, which are recognised in our sector and which we share through our consultancy, Consult Carr-Gomm. We believe that each individual has the right to have a say in the running of the services they receive. We have twice won the TPAS award for Participation into Practice. Go to User involvement section for more information.
Carr-Gomm can only deliver our quality services due to our dedicated staff, especially those who work directly with our clients. Project Workers and Support Assistants meet clients every week to help them work towards achieving the goals in their support plans. If you are interested in a career in helping vulnerable people, go to Work for us section. To find out more about our current staff, go to Our people.
Carr-Gomm is committed to achieving equality of opportunity in all aspects of our work. We value the diversity of our workforce and the individuals and communities with whom we work. Go to Diversity for our full equal opportunities policy.
We are committed to delivering a high standard of service and in 2003 the Audit Commission gave our services the highest rating in their first ever inspection of a supported housing provider. Go to Fact and figures section for more information on quality awards and regulation.
