Carr-Gomm – transforming care and support

Football fans raise money for Carr-Gomm in Barnsley

Generous football fans put their hands in their pockets on Saturday 21st February, to help some of the most socially excluded people in Barnsley. Local fans helped raise money for Carr-Gomm’s Barnsley scheme, which works with people with mental health problems and learning disabilities. Staff and clients rattled their tins throughout the Barnsley v Charlton match, raising £120 to help fund a day trip to the historic city of York.

‘Many of the people we work with get very little opportunity to visit anywhere outside of the local area, or spend time with others in a social setting. Trips like this seem like a small thing, but really do make a big difference to people’s lives’ said project worker, Rachael.

‘We would like to say a massive thank you to all the fans who generously donated money, and to Barnsley Football Club for giving us this opportunity.

‘Everyone had a really enjoyable day’ she added, ‘and clients got a great buzz from helping to raise this money themselves. They were a little disappointed at the nil-nil result though. They really wanted Barnsley to win!’
