Carr-Gomm – transforming care and support

New support services help vulnerable people in Kent

Over 130 vulnerable people across Kent will receive support to help them maintain their tenancies and reduce the risk of becoming homeless with the launch of five new services.

Kent County Council’s Supporting People Team awarded Carr-Gomm contracts to run five ‘floating support’ services targeting specific client groups across the county. These include: women fleeing domestic abuse (west Kent), vulnerable young people (west Kent), substance misuse (alcohol) West Kent, two general substance misuse services in east and west Kent.

Support is provided to individuals in their own home by a dedicated support worker. Individuals receive practical and emotional support around tenancy issues, help to manage debt and access mainstream support services. Floating support is gradually reduced as the individual gains confidence. Eventually the support “floats off” to another client when the individual feels ready to manage on their own.

Georgina Mills, Local Services Manager at Carr-Gomm said: “We have a long history of supporting individuals in Kent and are pleased to expand the services we offer in the area. We will help even more vulnerable people to turn their lives around, live independently and get involved in the local community.

She adds: “Many of the clients we support have vastly different life experiences, those of a young care leaver are quite different from a woman fleeing domestic abuse or someone who has had to deal with addiction. However they all have one thing in common, and that is, they need support to live successfully on their own and manage on their own.”
