Major refurbishment programme agreed
Leading support provider Carr-Gomm has launched a new development partnership to strengthen its services for disadvantaged people.
On 20 April, national charity and registered social landlord Carr-Gomm, and housing consultancy, Red Loft Partnership signed a four year contract for Red Loft to provide development services to Carr-Gomm.
The aim of this partnership is to enable Carr-Gomm to increase its development programme and to establish new supported housing projects for disadvantaged people. Carr-Gomm’s current development programme 2006-8 is worth £4.85million. This includes a case load of major repairs to existing properties and large scale redevelopment as well as £1million for the provision of 9 new self-contained flats.
Carr-Gomm provides high quality housing, care and support which enables disadvantaged people to take control of their lives. Set up in 1965, Carr-Gomm now offers a range of services to 3,000 people each year in England, including day services, supported housing and floating support. Its clients include people with mental health needs, homeless people, vulnerable families and those who need support because of illness, disability, or crises.
Red Loft is a fast-growing housing consultancy, set up in 2002. It already successfully works with a number of housing providers where it provides all or the majority of the development function including among others, Tower Hamlets Community Housing, Teachers Housing Association, East End Homes and Hornsey Housing Trust.
Gary Lashko, Chief Executive of Carr-Gomm, said: “We chose Red Loft because they showed a willingness to work with us as partners and they have a proven track record in the sector. Carr-Gomm wants to develop more supported housing projects which benefit our clients and the communities in which we work. This partnership will enable us to take a more strategic approach to developing these schemes and free up our staff to focus on our core business of delivering high quality services to people in need.”
Richard Horn, Project Manager, said: “The Red Loft team has lots of housing expertise including specialist knowledge of development in supported housing which means they really understand the needs of the organisation and its clients, and can ‘hit the ground running’. They bring a network of contacts around the country which will help to improve the quality of our current development projects and offers many exciting opportunities for growth.”
David Leah, Red Loft Partner, said: “We are very excited to be working with Carr-Gomm because we are passionate about supported housing and provision of affordable housing with people in need. We hope that this partnership will help Carr-Gomm to make better use of its existing resources and to double its development programme in size over the next two years.”
