Support Worker of the year
Carr-Gomm support worker, Wendy Collins, has been named as the Crisis Changing Lives Support Worker of the Year in a national competition.
Wendy, who works for Carr-Gomm's Domestic Abuse Service in Darlington, was presented with the award by Caroline Spellman MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government - at a special ceremony in London.
The process began when Wendy applied for an education grant on behalf of one of her clients. The grants were then monitored and used as a selection process for the awards. Wendy was chosen from 312 other grant applicants, to attend the ceremony alongside 11 other finalists. She was then announced as the overall winner.
Talking about her success Wendy said: “I am absolutely delighted. The whole process was a complete surprise to me. I didn’t realise when I applied for the grant that this would lead to a nomination for a national award. I must stress, though, that it has been as a result of a team effort. Everyone in the Domestic Abuse Service and our partners in the Police and Housing teams, work incredibly hard and the whole team deserve the recognition for this success.”
Wendy’s efforts were rewarded even more when the client she assisted with the education grant – a Darlington mother of five – went on to open her own business.
