How to apply for support
Carr-Gomm provides services for people who need support. We accept referrals from social services, local authorities, care institutions, housing agencies, individuals themselves and community services.

Criteria for applying
Below is a description of the procedure for applying to Carr-Gomm. This may vary slightly from project to project so please contact the appropriate regional office for the most up-to-date information.
Individuals applying to Carr-Gomm generally should be:
- In need of services offered by Carr-Gomm
- Over 16 years of age
- Able to control any alcohol dependency
- Actively working towards eliminating any illegal drug dependency
- Able to share with people from a variety of backgrounds, ages, cultures and both gender (if applying for Carr-Gomm accommodation)
- Able to manage their lives on a day-to-day basis, with practical support (the level of support depending on individual needs)
- Able to budget for themselves, with support
- Able to manage own medication, if prescribed, with support
- Able to negotiate the physical aspects of the building (with necessary adaptations made by Carr-Gomm where possible)(if applying for Carr-Gomm accommodation)
- Able to manage simple household tasks
Allocation will also take into account the following:
- The applicant’s choice of area/ locality
- The balance of the support needs of people already in the project (were appropriate) (if applying for Carr-Gomm accommodation)
- Risk factors, such as incidents of violence or arson
Some specialist projects, such as women-only, will have slightly different criteria for application. Carr-Gomm will only offer a tenancy or support to those we feel can benefit from our services.
The vast majority of support services we offer are funded by Supporting People. In each area, the Supporting Team has agreed with Carr-Gomm the criteria for referrals to each project. These criteria may differ from those mentioned above.
Applying to Carr-Gomm
People can apply to Carr-Gomm directly or an agency such as probation, a homeless unit or social services can refer a client to Carr-Gomm.
First contact the regional office for the area in which you would like to live. The administration officers will complete an initial enquiry form with you and, if you meet the basic criteria listed above, you will be sent an information pack.
The information pack will contain information about Carr-Gomm’s services and specifically about the project that you are interested in. If you are applying for housing then there will be some information about our lettings policy and procedures. There will also be an application form for you to fill in.
Before Carr-Gomm can accept a new client, we must fill in a needs assessment and risk of harm forms, to make sure that the person applying is going to get the most benefit out of our services and be able to live safely with our other clients.
