Carr-Gomm – transforming care and support

Homeless people

Carr-Gomm’s specialist services for homeless people offer a positive alternative to life on the streets and a route to resettlement. Our largest project for homeless people, Victoria House, was recognised with a top prize at the 2004 Charity Awards. Victoria House provides temporary accommodation, training and support to 38 clients in East Manchester. Each person has their own flat and receives tailor-made support to develop skills for living independently.

The award judges described the project as ‘mould-breaking’ for its record in resettlement and contribution to community cohesion. Set up four years ago, Victoria House is a valuable resource for local people. Our neighbours in Openshaw now access the learning and training opportunities in basic skills and IT offered to Carr-Gomm’s clients and supported by the European Social Fund and Learning and Skills Council.

“Victoria House is a success because of the dedication of Carr-Gomm staff, the support of our neighbours in Manchester and the commitment of the homeless people who walk through our doors.”
